Doctrines crucial to the gospel that every parent will teach his children.
Teach them about God’s holiness
- God is utterly holy, and His law therefore demands perfect holiness.
- Because He is holy, God hates sin.
- Sinners cannot stand before Him.
- Sin is violation of God’s law.
- Sin is what makes true peace impossible for unbelievers.
- All have sinned.
- Sin makes the sinner worthy of death.
- Sinners can do nothing to earn salvation.
- Sinners cannot change their own sin nature.
- Sinners are therefore in a helpless state.
Instruct them about Christ and what He has done
- He is eternally God.
- He is Lord of all.
- He became man.
- He is utterly pure and sinless.
- The sinless one became a sacrifice for our sin.
- He shed His own blood as an atonement for sin.
- He died on the cross to provide a way of salvation for sinners.
- He rose triumphantly from the dead.
- His righteousness is imputed to those who trust Him.
- Thus He freely justifies all who trust in Him.
Tell them what God demands of sinners
- God calls sinners to repentance.
- Turn your heart from all that dishonors God.
- Follow Jesus.
- Trust Him as Lord and Savior.
Advise them to count the cost thoughtfully
- Take up your cross.
- Be prepared to follow Christ even to death.
- Persuade your children to trust Christ.
- Encourage your children to seek the Lord.
Teach your children diligently. Teach your children wisdom. Teach your children to fear God. Teach your children to guard their minds. Teach your children to think for themselves. Teach your children to obey their parents. Teach your children to control their lusts. Teach your children to enjoy their spouses. Teach your children to watch their words. Teach your children the value of hard work. Teach your children to manage their money. Teach your children to love their neighbors.
